If you're new to training or coming back from a little time off, it's important to get the amount of work you do, and the intensity you work at, correct.

Too often I see people dive in head first and end up giving up because it was harder than they thought, or they get stuck spinning their wheels with no progress.

When exercising and looking for progress, we need to give our body a stimulus to adapt too. Whether it's cardio in the form of running orresistance training by lifting weights, if you stress your body in some way it adapts and gets better.

As a beginner you can experience this quite rapid progression for the first 6-12 months before things start slowing down. 
That's why it's important that we maximise this period by only introducing your body to as much stimulus as it needs and not much more.

There is no sense jumping straight into max lifts or reps and leaving yourself with little room to grow.

I always start my new clients off at a moderate intensity and rarely go to failure during the first month. This 'break-in' period is crucial to set the body up for success and to create the neural pathways necessary for a greater mind-muscle connection - it's not for testing out a new best every week.

Start small and gradually build up to reap the ongoing rewards of the new stimulus for as long as you can!

Freeze dried chocolate covered strawberries are one of my favourite after dinner sweet treats. I’ve shown them once before on my insta stories as one of my fav ‘chocolates’.

The issue I have with these freeze dried strawberries is that I can sometimes (more often than not🤣) eat them pretty mindlessly and before I know it, I’ve had the equivalent (if not more) calories of my dinner after dinner in a couple bites!
⠀ ⠀
I’m all for intuitive eating, but sometimes I’m just not satisfied with a small treat.. 🤷‍️
⠀
I’m more of a volume eater, so it is something I promote for people (like me ‍️) who have a larger appetite but aren’t as active as they probably should or could be! ⠀
⠀
Recently I’ve found myself eating more but moving less since the weather is cooling up and the days are getting shorter! My sedentary job doesn’t help the situation either.
⠀
2 freeze dried choc strawberries aren’t cutting the mustard for me after dinner when I’m looking for something sweet ATM. I don’t even have a sweet tooth! ⠀
My solution for this - DIY version using fresh strawberries and melted chocolate. Why? Unlike the freeze dried option, fresh strawberries are a far more filling option!

Just like dried fruit, fruit that has been freeze dried has had all their water removed, which is why the fresh option is far more filling, 3-4 chocolate covered fresh strawberries are usually all I need! This DIY option is also far cheaper!
⠀
I usually have both options at hand but pick the one that suits my needs best at that point in time! Sometimes I even mix the two options together, there are no rules. ⠀
I do not encourage inappropriate food restriction but I do encourage people to become aware of their regular food choices and behaviours.
⠀
Recipe: melt chocolate and dip strawberries into chocolate, place on baking paper and refrigerate (250g strawberries + 70g chocolate of choice, I used Cadbury dark chocolate melts for the nutrition info).

Slow progress is better than no progress  I've always struggled with my weight since a young age. When I got married and had my first child, I reached my heaviest ever. I kept gaining weight even after having my first daughter. After my parents divorcing and trying to balance a life as a new mom and wife, I gave into food and after my second baby I found myself at 264 lbs(picture on left). At the end of last year, I finally worked hard enough to get out of the 200's (picture on the right).
I'm still working on myself every single day. It's never been easy but I'm never giving up. I've made life changes and I've never been happier. My weightloss journey has only made me a better person and mom. My daughters have learned to eat clean with me. I'm so excited with how much better I feel as I get closer and closer to my goals!

If you are lying to yourself about your eating habits, that may be counterintuitive to your goals. Be honest with yourself and more strict with what/how much you are eating. It can really help you out! ⁣

Like, I had to drag my ass onto the gym floor, call in back up (bf pep talk) & still dragged my feet between sets.

BUT I did it. Just...

Its also the first time I did a whole session with a crop top AND tight ass shorts on - whilst I was still somewhat conscious, it was an awesome, freeing feeling. After having a few rough weeks with food and coming off my ‘dieting’ phase it was a nice reminder of the progress I have made. Old Jess wouldn’t have even thought about showing off my belly voluntarily let alone do a full training session complete with bending over (letting my beautiful rolls be exposed) and everything!

“Smile through the storm” — Taebo, Billy Blanks. This has always stuck with me - it’s a nice reminder that the shitty days are just a moment and they’ll pass. Just keep going

When the weight loss monster wins!  I have struggled since last October to lose weight. I had 60 pounds to lose and lost 25. As of today I have gained 7 back and feel like a total failure. Each day I follow my plan and eat right but the scale keeps rising,  something is off. I know I’m incredibly stressed out. Probably the most I’ve been in years. Financial difficulties at a time in my life when I should be planning fun things, not worrying about keeping the lights on or food on the table. And when I see myself rapidly putting this weight back on it doesn’t help. Not sure why I’m pouring my story out here but sometimes I feel that this is where others get my struggle.  I’m not having a pity party although it may seem like it. I’m just frustrated and at a loss. I need a kick start to get things back on track. Not giving up!!!

My recommendation? Opt for Whole Foods 🥒 MOST of the time (I do at least 80% of the time). Foods like fruits , vegetables , high quality protein like eggs , and healthy fats from foods such as avocados 🥑 and walnuts 🥜. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy pastries 🥮 and muffins like the one pictured above every now and then, but most of the time I stick to foods like the plate on the right so I can stay on track with my nutrition goals. 🤩⠀

To find your WHY, think of it this way. Sure, most of you may want to lose weight. But WHY? To be healthy. But WHY? To feel better. But WHY? “Ummm chad I’m confused”. Guys deep down there’s a reason you decided one day that today was the day you were going to start your journey. And when you find the true, TRUE reason as to what pushed you on this path, you’ll find that you won’t need motivation all the time. That WHY is actually more powerful if it’s you’re true WHY anyway.
